Worship & Praise

WORSHIP & PRAISE, AND BELIEF

Praise is an expression of the soul:

You can praise God, or indeed anyone:
,         ,         ,         ,         You praise them
,         ,         ,         ,         or you praise their right, & ideally good, qualities
,         ,         ,         ,         &/or things they’ve done.
,         ,         ,         ,         Perhaps see earlier sections: GOOD & BAD, RIGHT & WRONG
,         ,         ,         ,         and
,         ,         ,         ,         immediately after it: EXAMPLES.

0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
Whereas worship is an expression of the heart/
spirit:

            You worship only God.

,         ,         ,         ,         Perhaps see first cell
,         ,         ,         ,         of earlier section: HEART/SPIRIT & SOUL, , , ,

If you are a believer, a Christian:
You worship only out of gratitude
(not out of proudly earning, vanity, etc).

.

Belief  . . . . . . . . . . . . causes  . . . . . . .  worship & praise.

Worship & praise . . . do not cause . . . belief.
,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         That would be mere brainwashing,
,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         belief should already be there.

But worship & praise still have a function
(as well as being great in their own right):

            1)
They help you renew your mind:

      i.e. help your heart/spirit:

                 o    duplicate its belief

                       into your mind,

o    establish the pattern of that belief,

the pattern of the gospel, agape love,

                       throughout your mind.
,         ,         ,         ,         ,         Perhaps see earlier sections:
,         ,         ,         ,         ,         WHAT IS A BELIEVER? WHAT IS THE GOSPEL?
,         ,         ,         ,         ,         and:
,         ,         ,         ,         ,         HOW TO RENEW YOUR MIND.

            2)  Worship & praise h
elp:
                             belief to act,
                             faith to exist.
,         ,         ,         ,         ,         Perhaps see earlier section: FAITH.

            3)  Worship & praise
                 t
emporarily prevent unbelief (doubts) from acting.
,         ,         ,         Perhaps see earlier section: UNBELIEF.

Or, as Andrew Wommack often puts it:
                             Worshipping & praising God
is one way to magnify him, in your eyes.
This de-magnifies your problems, in your eyes,
                             puts them in perspective.

Here is an Old Testament, indeed Old Covenant,
            example of 2) & 3).
,         ,         I wish I could find New Testament, New Covenant, examples.

,         ,         But I’m sure lots of great Christian meetings have seen it in action.

2 Chron c20 v1-30   my abbreviation:

Israel had split to become Israel and Judah.
            And now
Judah was threatened, with extinction or slavery,
by the vast combined armies of its surrounding nations.
            But Jehoshaphat, king of
Judah, proclaimed a national fast.
Many eagerly came to fast, pray, & seek God.
Then king Jehoshaphat prayed in front of them all.
Then God’s Spirit replied, through Jahaziel,
that the battle was not theirs but God’s,
and that God would win it for them
but that they had to go to their enemies and face them.
So Jehoshaphat encouraged the people to have faith,
                 in God,
                 and in the prophets.
So they went, full of gratitude, expecting nothing but victory.
The singers were at the front, ahead of the army, singing:
                 “Give thanks to the Lord,
for his love endures for ever.”
When they arrived they found that God
            had set
[angelic?] ambushes
that had encouraged the enemy armies
to wipe each other out – to a man.
They were all dead, leaving collectable booty.
Then the fear of God came upon the surrounding nations
            and they left
Judah alone.   my abbreviation

Though realise that worship & praise mean nothing
if you worship & praise God
only in order to get something from him.

Worship & praise is not worship & praise if it’s fake.

As I wrote earlier on this webpage:

Worship & praise do not cause belief to exist.
            Belief should already be there:

            To use worship & praise
to try to cause belief to exist
            would be mere attempted brainwashing.

LYRICS & MELODY

For non-Christian songs:
            self-expression   =   soul-expression.

For Christian songs:
            self-expression   =   heart/
spirit-expression.

For Christian songs for Christians who’ve
renewed their minds:
            self-expression   =   heart/
spirit-expression  +  soul-expression.

Perhaps see first two cells
of earlier section:
HEART/SPIRIT & SOUL, , , ,

.

God invented time, in Heaven, and here,
because it increases complexity, increases structure.

See earlier section:
WHY ISN’T HEAVEN & THE UNIVERSE
JAM-PACKED FULL OF STUFF?
.,,,,,

Hence:
            melody,
            harmonies,
            rhythm,
            a variety of instruments,
            lyrics,
            the use of different parts
            (bass, tenor, alto, soprano, etc)
the use of different kinds of voices
            (pop, classical, choir, etc)
            etc,
all exist because they constitute so much structure.

Indeed, structure that’s designed to match & interact with
many other social & spiritual structures.

.

There are many songs
about the Crucifixion causing us to:

o    repent,

o    have a future in Heaven.

But there are few songs
about the Crucifixion causing us to:

o    receive God’s Spirit,

o    renew our minds
which enables the Holy Spirit to live in:
                       every room of your mind,
                       every area of your life,
which enables the gifts of the Spirit.

WHAT SOME CHRISTIAN
LYRICS ARE

WHAT CHRISTIAN
LYRICS SHOULD BE

Old Covenant:

      God is holy.
      But we are not holy:
            neither to him,
            nor to others.

      Hence God is up there
and we can’t get near him.

      Hence I bow down
      because he is the Lord.

      God is with us.

New Covenant:

Even if I am not yet
      holy to others,
God has made all of us
      holy to him.

I believe it.  So I am
      grateful to be loved
      by the Father, the Son,
      and the Spirit
      who lives in me.

      I have made God
      (all three) my Lord.

God is with us and in us.
,         John c3 v5   Acts c1 – c2   Col c2 (v9-10)
          Eph (c3 v20)    Rom c8 v9   2 Tim c1 v14
          1 John c3 v24   1 John c4 v12-13,,,,,

The Psalms are in the Bible.
      So they are all Christian.

      The Psalms sometimes
      prophesy the New Covenant,
      but are usually Old Covenant.

,         The, otherwise excellent, song:
,         YouTube: – Blessed Be Your Name (worship video w/ lyrics), ,,,,,,
,         is flawed by the Old Covenant concept line: ‘You give and take away’, from Job c1 v21. , ,
,         See earlier section: THE PROBLEM WITH BELIEVING THAT GOD STILL DOES BAD.,,,,,,

Singing:
      “I will praise you.”
      “I will love you.”
      “I will etc.”

Every time you sing these
they imply
that you’ve not yet done them.

Singing:
      “I praise you now Jesus:
      because you have taken
      the Father’s wrath
      against me,
      and because of the good,
      even miraculous good,
      that the Cross now causes.”

I pray in Jesus’ name.

But I don’t get all I pray for.
So God doesn’t love us
as much as he can.

Considering the Cross:
      God must love us
      as much as he can.

We should improve this world.

Hence our lives should be
centred on this world.

Besides, this world is our home.

Above statements are:  true  false  false.

Luke c14 v26-35:
You cannot be a Christian
unless you give up your family,
even give up yourself,
and are clear about it all
Cut your bonds with the world
or you are useless to God.
my abbreviation

Jesus – you died for me.

So I owe you all my things.

Jesus – you died for me.

So I have given you myself
(all my things come with me).

God is a mystery:
      to the mind,
      and perhaps to the heart/
spirit.

We know, love, and contain, God,
hear him speak if we quieten,
& have a thick book
all about him.

Songs that try to create belief.

See earlier section:
WORSHIP & PRAISE, AND BELIEF, , .

Songs that encourage faith,
encourage your belief to act.

See earlier section:
WORSHIP & PRAISE, AND BELIEF, , .

Often singing about God,
often singing in the third person.

The words are just dry & factual
such that they could be sung by
a fawning human
or even a fawning demon.

Often singing to God
often singing in the first person.

The words are praise & worship,
so no demon can sing them,
and an unbeliever singing them
would be visibly uncomfortable.

Songs that, on inspection,
are mostly about us.

Songs that are about God:
what he has done for us:
      the Cross & the Spirit
      and how they’ve changed us.

DOUBLE CHECK

Regarding Bethel (& Hillsong, Elevation, etc) churches:
            the
music is all good, Dave here: review & double check this section.
and the lyrics are usually good (i.e. biblical),
and the preaching is usually good.

But (some of) its members’ & leaders’ thinking is wrong,
            certainly in part.

,         ,         Perhaps see text (starting Ahh, it’s clearer now.)
,         ,         near end of fourteenth cell
,         ,         of earlier section: ABOUT BIBLICAL TEACHER-HEALERS GENERALLY.

            They all believe Jesus’ promises
that we believers can, in Jesus’ name,
            command, or pray for:

o    miraculous healings,

o    the necessities of life.

And they are right to do so.

            God does only good things
            in this Church Age.
John c10 v10,,,

And it seems to me, that some at Bethel
            thought about this
            and concluded that:
“This is better than the New Age teaching
                         we used to hear.
It’s God himself, doing good, to, & through, us.”

And, again, they are right to think that.

However, one shouldn’t make that conclusion
without considering all of Jesus’ sayings.

If a song writer or worship leader is not spiritually mature
they may ignore the bad concepts that Jesus taught.

For the bad concepts that Jesus taught
                 see earlier section:
WHY THROW AWAY THE PRESENTS?,,,,,,
                 and the links within it
(this link does not open a new tab).

,         ,         ,         Perhaps also ee earlier section: GOOD & BAD, RIGHT & WRONG.,,,,,

            When you lump together:
                       the good concepts
                       and
                       the bad concepts
            that Jesus taught,
then the uniqueness of Christianity becomes apparent.

(The singer songwriter Misty Edwards gets this.
See her YouTube videos at the foot of this webpage.)

If you chose only the good
concepts
            and ignore the bad,
you could easily make the mistake of:
                       squeezing good concepts
from elsewhere, even from other religions,
                       into your Christian thinking.

I think that’s the mistake Amanda Cook
(a worship leader at Bethel) made in:
,         ,         ,         ,         YouTube: – Bethel Church
,,        ,,        ,,        ,,        Openly Practicing Islamic Mysticism
.,,,,,

Indeed, many Christians, the world over:
even if they don’t add, from elsewhere,
                       to their Christian thinking,
at least pick and choose Jesus’ sayings:
                       embracing some,
                       ignoring others.

But is it right to pick and choose Jesus’ sayings?
Satan & his underling demons treat themselves as above God
but is that a club you want to join?

.

WORSHIP TIPS

The mind:
            is both static and dynamic,
            both knows and thinks.

But the heart/
spirit is only static,
contains no processes:
            It: ‘knows’ what it ‘knows’
& that’s the end of it.
            Or rather: believes
what it believes
& that’s the end of it.

            The heart/
spirit is static, contains no processes,
so it does not notice time passing.

So, it does not get bored.

So, if you consider your own heart’s/
spirit’s
favourite praise/worship song:
your heart/spirit will not tire of it
however many times you sing or hear it.

            But your soul,
or rather your mind within your soul,
or rather the un-renewed parts of your mind
            within your soul,
            will tire of it.

Many a Christian song is emotional
due to its music &/or lyrics.

But realise that this is separate from (& perhaps different from)
the emotions that the song prompts in you.

Try not to rely on (recycle) the emotions the song provides.
Let your heart/
spirit produce its own emotions.

,                                                         (Behind the Song) - Misty Edwards
.
,,,,,
,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         Great lyrics:
,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         Flesh would buy from God,
,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         would give to God to get from God.
,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         But God loved us, by way of the Cross,
,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         so that we might love him back.
,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         The cause & effect is reversed.
,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         Great musically too.

,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         speaks volumes.

,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         This version has an intro that’s on two levels:
,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         The general (God’s point of view).
,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         The individual’s (our point of view).
,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         The latter makes more sense of the song.

,         ,         ,         ,         ,         ,         From her Relentless album.

Lyrics

,         ,         ,         Initially Misty Edwards was an intercessory missionary:
,         ,         ,         praying a lot, for, and on behalf of, others.

,         ,         ,         I reckon that’s why her songs:
,         ,         ,         ,         are more first person grammar
,         ,         ,         ,         and less third person grammar
,         ,         ,         than many Christian songs.

,         ,         ,         Hence they are personal, like a prayer,
,         ,         ,         the way worship songs should be.

Warning: change of mood of writing.

,         ,         ,
According to Wikipedia: Misty Edwards,,,
,         ,         ,         the last album (8 in total) that Misty made was back in 2014.

,         ,         ,         2014 was also the year that she says she started a 7 year ‘affair’
,         ,         ,         with Kevin, a much older, married, gospel musician.

,         ,         ,         So it’s highly probable that it was this sin
,         ,         ,         that ended her album production.

,         ,         ,         Look hard and you can see that it distracted her, spiritually:
,         ,         ,       ,         It’s worse than a guilty conscience.
,         ,         ,         ,         Your connection to Jesus suddenly becomes too short,
,         ,         ,         ,         it doesn’t reach him, and it shows.

,         ,         ,         ,       Perhaps see ninth cell (starting Regarding everyone having)
,         ,         ,         ,         of earlier section: TELEPATHY.

,         ,         ,         Misty’s songs speak, not only of our wonderful God & Saviour,
,         ,         ,         but also of her, as a creative, sensitive, personable Christian
,         ,         ,         who directed, not only her spiritual passions towards God,
,         ,         ,         but also her earthly passions, thinking them dismissed.
,         ,         ,         (Perhaps see earlier section: THE APOSTLE PAUL WAS ASEXUAL.),,,

,         ,         ,         This might be fine if it weren’t for the presence of abusive leaders
,         ,         ,         who did nothing about their own ways and position.
,         ,         ,         Kevin’s admissions, both of his nature, and of his past affairs,
,         ,         ,         mean that, though she said she wanted the affair,
,         ,         ,         that  ‘vulnerable & abused’ objectively describe her at that time.
